APSE ARCHITECTURE AND PLANNING

Apse is a high quality, creative practice offering a bespoke architectural and planning service in a socially responsible way. Naturally, we put good design and good business ethics at the heart of what we do, but more than that, we listen and we care.

We give clients and projects the time they need, so we can deliver a solution that is right for the site and right for you.

ethical buildings

We care about people. We believe in working towards a fairer world for all. We believe that good design and good business ethics can work together to help build a better future for everyone.

The building industry is a huge consumer of global resources, and it is the responsibility of all involved in the process to ensure that work is carried out in a manner that preserves the dignity of everyone involved in the production chain across the world.

We have learned that this does not need to add excessive cost, but may require some careful study of the supply chains and resources. Keeping trade as local as possible helps to ensure that the effects of the work we do is managed properly.

organic architecture

We design bespoke buildings for their own individual sites. Organic architecture is about the spirit of the place. Each place is unique, with its own geology, wildlife, landscape and history. Listening to the spirit of the place helps us to find the journey that is right for the project.

The concept of organic architecture goes much deeper than the use of natural materials and softer forms, it is essentially about bringing to expression the sensitive relationships that exist between things.

green buildings

We care about the environment. The technology of low energy buildings has become more commonplace but the impact the building has on the environment is about more than energy and must be examined in a holistic way.

about us

Apse was established out of the philosophy that ethical, ecological and organic design can make a positive difference to our lives. The directors, Gordon Clarke and Julie Boultby have been applying this ideology as practicing architects for many years, and seen the difference it makes. When a satisfied client says: ‘now I really enjoy coming to work every day’, it shows the approach is worthwhile.

Apse work with commercial, community and domestic clients with projects ranging from sustainable regeneration strategies to eco-homes using local and natural materials. We have the capacity to take on building projects of £50,000 to £5 million in value and planning strategies for parishes, towns and cities. Whatever your project, we offer the same professional approach and attention to detail throughout the process.

Apse are registered with the Architects Registration Board (ARB) as well as Chartered Architects with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). We are members of the Association for Environment Conscious Building (AECB) and members of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB). We are registered Church Architects in a number of Diocese.

Our practice offers the following services:
